Background

Jacobs/Wyper Architects, LLP, an architectural, planning and interior design firm, was founded in 1981 by Terry Jacobs and Jamie Wyper. The original practice was based on the expertise with solar residential architecture of the two principals, but over the years the firm has evolved into larger and more complex projects for corporate and educational clients. These projects are frequently technically complex, such as research laboratories, manufacturing facilities, and data centers for the pharmaceutical industry and for research universities. In addition to research facilities, our education practice has broadened to include classrooms, student centers and visual and creative arts facilities.

The Firm today has three principals, three associates and a total staff of 25. We collaborate with external consulting engineers on all projects, believing that we can build the best team for a project by matching its requirements with the best-demonstrated engineering experience and skill. The firm is registered in 14 states and works primarily in the Mid-Atlantic and northeast regions of the country. The firm completed projects as far afield as Texas, Oklahoma, Nevada and China for clients who are locally based.

As the firm has grown, our original interest in environmentally sensible building practice has remained as a fundamental, if unheralded, aspect of the design discourse of the office. We have recently expanded our interest with the certification of several architects by the US Green Building Council as LEED Accredited Professionals, and we are working on projects in adherence with the USGBC’s LEED Rating System.
