JacobsWyper Architects has been selected to design the American Bible Society’s Faith & Liberty Discovery Center, a new $60 million attraction on Independence Mall. The 40,000-square-foot facility will occupy the first floor of the Wells Fargo Building at 5th and Market Streets, where the Bible Society relocated their headquarters after moving from New York last year, and is planned to open in 2018.
The Discovery Center will allow visitors to explore the Bible as a cultural force that has influenced faith, liberty and history, incorporating a highly interactive experience that will be designed by Local Projects, an award-winning firm that recently completed the 9/11 Museum & Memorial in New York City. A combination of historical artifacts and cutting-edge technology will be used to craft the center’s uniquely immersive environment.
The architectural design team, led by JacobsWyper principal Peter Saylor, aims to create a strong visual identity for the center that reads from a distance and around the Mall. Jamie Wyper, principal-in-charge, adds that “being an integral part of this exciting project, which will bring numerous tourists to Philadelphia, is an honor for our firm.” Coincidentally, JWA is also working across the Mall at the Independence Visitor Center, which is currently undergoing renovations led by our Museum & Cultural design team.
