Design of a new research laboratory and campus master plan for a German based chemical company. The building design is developed around a single open plan laboratory. This was achieved within an existing warehouse structure that turned a local eyesore into an attractive neighbor for the adjacent residential community.

Jacobs/Wyper has been providing design and planning services for a long term, phased growth and conversion development of a 47-acre chemical manufacturing facility. The master plan outlines a series of phases leading to a campus-like work environment primarily for research and corporate staff. Onsite manufacturing will eventually be phased out in this location.
An initial phase of the plan called for the conversion of a 42,000 SF manufacturing plant into a state-of-the-art research facility with both discrete and open laboratories. The original warehouse structure was completely gutted. A new brick veneer exterior was applied and the interior completely reconstructed and fit-out. The design is developed around a single open plan laboratory. The open plan provides flexibility as departments and functions change and encourages cross discipline interaction.
