This small (3,600 sf) project was designed for AZ’s North American Headquarters site in Wilmington, DE as a reception center for on-site contractors. It has achieved LEED Gold Certification in part through the use of a concrete trombe wall and a 10 kW photovoltaic array on the roof.

The Service Provider Center (SPC) was created to serve several purposes: limit contractor’s vehicular traffic and access to the site, house on site contractors and eliminate unsightly trailers scattered around the campus.
The building was designed according to sustainable principals, which include:
- Thermal envelope minimizing heat gain and loss providing over 30% energy savings beyond ASHRAE 90.1-1999 requirements.
- Solar Design Elements
- Passive Solar Energy: Trombe wall system and direct gain windows
- Shading Devices: Fixed sunshade at south facade, roller shades in the windows facing all directions but north
- White roof to reduce the heat island effect
- Water conserving toilets and waterless urinals
- Geothermal cooling and heating system for energy efficiency
- Renewable energy: Photovoltaic panels on the roof (10kW)
The yearly savings are estimated at approximately 24% compared with a base building designed per IECC 2003 requirements.
SPC building has received USGBC LEED Gold Certification.
