Department of Recreation
Situated on a tight site adjacent to an existing recreation building, this new structure contains a gymnasium and support facilities for staff and community organizations. The gymnasium is a long, clear span construction designed for multiple sports and activities, including indoor soccer. The building was designed in accordance with the Department of Recreation’s stringent security and maintainability standards.

After failing for many years to get this project off the ground because of budget overruns, the Department of Recreation invited Jacobs/Wyper to take it over. With a very tight budget, exacerbated by the City’s costly procurement process, the project was designed and built under the budget and on schedule. Jacobs/Wyper, Architects' design strategy employed inexpensive, but durable, industrial material used in interesting ways to give the building a high profile in the community.
