GSK Headquarters Expansion

JacobsWyper was chosen by GlaxoSmithKline to create a master plan for the conversion of 203,000 sf of existing corporate headquarters space to exclusively research use, followed by a phased implementation of the plan’s recommendations. The chosen strategy proposes expansion of the headquarters facilities to 342,000 sf, in order to increase the total number of employees on site from 500 to 1,900.

At the Parsippany Headquarters Jacobswyper worked with GSK to create their Inovation Hub concept.The development  of the Hub concept was in response to GSK’s desire to be more adaptive, innovative and quicker to respond to changing market conditions.  Brand-centered “cross-teams” were each brought together in open, flexible work settings meant to promote collaboration and transparency of ideas.

Employees are not assigned dedicated workstations and can change locations dependingon the tasks at hand, and executives spend some of their time working at a common kitchen table. Transparency, informality and shared space all help to reduce the rigid separation of tasks that previously existed. As a result, face-to-face communication within the targeted product groups increased, and a more collaborative, interactive environment emerged within the campus.
