Johnson & Johnson Our Story at the Powerhouse

Johnson & Johnson Our Story at the Powerhouse is a new interactive experience at the company’s global headquarters in New Brunswick, New Jersey, designed to celebrate the company’s 130-plus-year heritage of transformative, global healthcare innovation.  It is located within the oldest building on campus, a former powerhouse constructed in 1907, that has been thoroughly renovated and restored at the direction of JacobsWyper Architects.

Visitors are welcomed by a new landscaped plaza and a 2,800-square-foot, glass-enclosed lobby addition, replacing the Powerhouse’s original office annex, that provides ADA-accessible entry into the main building.  As a testament to the building’s history, the annex’s original brick facade was salvaged and painstakingly reconstructed to serve as a freestanding entry portal to the lobby.  The fully-restored main hall, which once housed steam-driven electric dynamo generators, now contains a combination of historical artifacts, immersive multimedia touchpoints and a 24-person theater that showcase Johnson & Johnson’s legacy of innovation and global impact. Adjacent to the primary exhibit area are climate-controlled archive and exhibition workspaces, as well as a small kitchen and staging area for catered events.
