Princeton University Council for Sciences and Technology StudioLab

Princeton’s Council for Science and Technology sought to create a learning space that would serve their mission to engage in and support interdisciplinary collaborations and cultivate synergies among the diverse community at Princeton. JacobsWyper Architects designed an open, flexible and colorful space that serves faculty members and students from the Music, Dance, Robotics and Engineering Departments. The StudioLab features a Motion Space, which includes a sprung dance floor and an overhead grid of motion capture cameras and specialty lighting, as well as Creation Centers with 3D printers, laser cutters and robotics components. A cluster of mobile tables provides flexibility, as they can be moved about the space or folded up and stored outside of the Lab as needed. The space also includes a small lounge area where students and teachers can collaborate on experiments using a large flat screen or walls and furniture that incorporate writeable surfaces.
