The Lucien E. Blackwell Community Center in West Philadelphia, a new 12,300-square-foot facility designed by JacobsWyper Architects, is named after the late U.S. Congressman and Councilman Lucien Blackwell. The facility will serve the
surrounding Mill Creek neighborhood, functioning as a community meeting place with an attached gymnasium to host a variety of athletic and civic functions. It will contain a regulation-size basketball/volleyball court, multi-purpose Community Room, warming kitchen and outdoor patio space.
The project team, consisting of JacobsWyper, Urban Technology and Hunt Engineering, is serving in a design-build capacity to the JD Bravo Company. The center will pursue LEED Silver Certification
