Located on the campus of the Philadelphia Police Academy, this state-of-the-art, critical response facility trains City and regional law enforcement agencies in SWAT, bomb disposal and K-9 operations. The first City-owned building to be certified LEED Gold, it was built on a reclaimed brownfield site and incorporates enhanced lighting controls / daylighting, extensive stormwater management and filtration, and geo-exchange ground-source heat pumps. In addition, the site’s energy monitoring system is capable of linking to the City-wide building energy management system. Inclusion of common support functions, such as classroom space, briefing rooms, fitness facilities and locker rooms, enables the effective consolidation of training activities at the Academy’s multi-acre campus. The cross-platform approach employed in this facility increases operational coordination among the different units and raises the standards of response and tactical training.
